Katy Perry Slammed for Promoting Tour During Spaceflight

Katy Perry's recent suborbital spaceflight with Blue Origin has ignited a wave of public criticism, with many labeling the venture as a tone-deaf publicity stunt.

The 11-minute journey, which included four minutes of weightlessness, featured an all-female crew comprising Perry, journalist Gayle King, activist Amanda Nguyen, former NASA engineer Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, and Lauren Sánchez, fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

During the flight, Perry unveiled the setlist for her upcoming "Lifetimes" world tour on a butterfly-shaped card—a gesture that was met with mockery on social media.

Critics highlighted the irony of using a space mission, a momentous occasion, for self-promotion, especially given the environmental concerns associated with space tourism.

Model Emily Ratajkowski was among those who condemned the mission, pointing out the environmental impact and perceived hypocrisy of promoting environmental awareness while participating in a space flight funded by a company linked to substantial ecological harm.

Perry's actions, including kissing the ground upon return and singing "What a Wonderful World" during the flight, were intended to add a reflective touch to the experience.

However, these gestures were perceived by many as overdramatic and insincere. The brief duration of the flight further fueled skepticism, with social media users questioning the significance of such a short trip.

This incident underscores the growing scrutiny of celebrity involvement in space tourism, raising questions about the environmental implications and the authenticity of such endeavors.
