Katy Perry Talks About 'Really Tough' Split from Orlando Bloom in New Interview

Katy Perry has revealed new details about her brief, yet challenging, one-year split from her now-fiancé, actor Orlando Bloom.

Despite being happily engaged and sharing a daughter, the pop star shared that the couple's journey to this point was far from smooth.

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Perry reflected on the early days of their relationship. The pair first connected at the Golden Globes after Bloom playfully took one of the In-N-Out burgers from her table.

“We’d met before then, but it really locked in then,” Perry recalled, adding that she had performed a manifestation ritual before the event, using crystals and setting her intentions under a full moon.

While their initial connection was strong, Perry revealed that their relationship wasn’t steady from the start. “We weren’t really in it from day one,” she admitted. After about a year together, the two went their separate ways.

Perry explained that Bloom, having just completed a period of celibacy and self-reflection, was ready for a serious commitment, while she was fresh out of a previous relationship.

“I was like, ‘I can’t do this right now, I need to go and swim in a different pond.’ But I had yet to do some real work.”

During their separation, Bloom had attended a retreat focused on self-growth and breaking bad habits, returning with a new mindset. This shift left Perry feeling unfulfilled by the dynamic between them, admitting, "I was so used to this push-pull [...] I was playing games."

Perry described the year they spent apart as "really tough," but eventually, she followed Bloom’s lead and attended the same retreat. "It changed my life. It saved my life," she shared, reflecting on how the experience helped her rewire her thinking and connect her head with her heart.

In 2018, the couple reunited with a deeper understanding of themselves and each other. A year later, Bloom proposed, and in 2020, they welcomed their daughter, Daisy Dove.

Looking back, Perry is grateful for the personal growth that came out of their time apart, noting how it shaped both her life and her music.
