Rihanna is making headlines as reports suggest she is preparing to release her highly anticipated ninth studio album.
According to The Sun, the singer has been under pressure from fans for new music since the release of her last album, "Anti", in 2016.
In addition to the new album, she is reportedly set to headline the 2025 edition of the Glastonbury Festival in England, giving fans the chance to see her live.
Since her last album, the hitmaker has primarily focused on her successful ventures in the cosmetics and lingerie industries and her relationship with rapper A$AP Rocky.
In a recent report, Daily Mail stated, “It’s been a running joke how long Rihanna’s ninth album has taken to be released, but finally the wait is almost over.”
The publication also revealed that Rihanna has recorded songs with several artists over the past few years, including collaborations with Alesso and Diplo.
However, Rihanna's journey to perfecting her new sound has been anything but straightforward.
The singer reportedly experimented with various genres, from pop to reggae to hip-hop, though many of these tracks were ultimately scrapped as she sought a fresh and authentic sound.
A source noted, “She has gone from pop to reggae to hip hop and everything in between. But because she wants it to sound fresh, and because of where Rihanna is at in her life, practically everything was scrapped.”
Some of the tracks were reworked for the final album, but most were discarded as Rihanna returned to the drawing board earlier this year.
On a more optimistic note, the outlet reported that “Rihanna has been back in the studio for a while now and things are finally coming together,” signaling that the long wait for new music may soon be over.
