Lil Nas X has opened up about his feelings on Beyonce’s recent success in country music, expressing a wish that he could have experienced the same. In a candid interview with the BBC, the rapper shared his thoughts on Beyonce’s foray into the genre and his own journey in music.
“I wish this would have happened for me. I wasn’t even able to experience this,” Lil Nas X revealed. Despite his happiness for Beyonce, he couldn’t help but feel a tinge of envy.
He has been experimenting with country sounds over the past few years. “I’ve been trying out some country [sounds] here and there over the last couple of years,” he said. However, he emphasized the importance of authenticity in his music. “I want to feel connected to it and not force it,” he added.
Lil Nas X, known for his hit song “Old Town Road,” faced obstacles in the country music scene. The song was barred from Billboard’s country chart because it was deemed not to have enough country elements.
Reflecting on his career, Lil Nas X highlighted the importance of making hits. “Of course, I know my own worth, but these are the things that are going to feed your family and the people around you who have helped build what you’re creating. So it’s important. I can’t just say [screw] hits, because I need them,” he concluded.
While he celebrates Beyonce’s achievements, Lil Nas X continues to navigate his path, hoping for a future where he too can find success in the country music world.
