Sharon Stone commends Margot Robbie and Greta Gerwig for the success of the film 'Barbie,' disclosing that she had pitched the same concept to a Hollywood studio back in the 1990s.
The Variety Magazine's latest report sheds light on Stone's early endeavor, revealing that despite initial approval from Barbie's leadership, the project failed to materialize.
The 65-year-old actress shared this untold story in the comments section of America Ferrara's Instagram post, following the 29th Critics Choice Awards. Stone recalled, "I was laughed out of the studio when I presented the Barbie idea in the '90s with the support of the head of Barbie."
Acknowledging the progress since then, Stone expressed gratitude, stating, "How far we've come. Thank you, ladies, for your courage and endurance." This comment was in response to Ferrara's post featuring her acceptance speech for the SeeHer Award, recognizing her outstanding performance in Greta Gerwig's acclaimed movie.
Stone's revelation adds a fascinating chapter to the history of attempts to bring the iconic doll to life on the big screen.
