Renowned Colombian singer Shakira expressed her jubilation as she unveiled a towering 21-foot statue dedicated to her in her hometown of Barranquilla. The 46-year-old Grammy winner took to Instagram on Tuesday, December 26, to share her excitement about the honor bestowed upon her.

"I'm very excited about this tribute to Colombian women and the Barranquilleras inside and outside my land!" Shakira exclaimed in a post that accompanied a video showcasing the impressive statue. Crafted by artist Yino Marques, the monument captures the iconic dance move from Shakira's 2005 hit, "Hips Don't Lie."
In the video, Shakira's parents, William Mebarak Chadid and Nidia Ripoll Torrado, along with Barranquilla Mayor Jaime Pumarejo, are seen marveling at the statue for the first time. The singer's fans also seized the opportunity to pose for pictures with the monumental creation.
Earlier on the same day, the "Waka Waka" artist shared a series of photos highlighting the statue's grandeur. One image features her parents smiling and holding hands in front of the monument, while another offers a close-up of the sculpture. The third photo captures Mayor Pumarejo striking a pose between Shakira's parents.

In addition to the visual spectacle, Shakira posted an image of the statue's dedication, which read, "A heart that composes, hips that do not lie, an unmatched talent, a voice that moves masses, and bare feet that march for the good of childhood and humanity." The singer also shared a picture featuring her brothers, her father, and the mayor.
In the caption accompanying the post, Shakira provided insights into each photo, expressing her happiness at sharing the moment with her parents, celebrating her mother's birthday, and marveling at the heartfelt dedication. The unveiling of this monumental tribute marks a significant recognition of Shakira's contributions to Colombian culture and her global impact as a music icon.
