The 31-year-old rapper was found guilty of three serious crimes in December. These crimes are using a gun to hurt someone, having a loaded and unregistered gun in a car, and firing a gun carelessly.
Megan Thee Stallion, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, told the court that Lanez shot at her feet and told her to dance while she was walking away from a car they were both in back in July 2020.
A judge named David Herriford gave the prison sentence to Lanez. He said that nobody really wins in this situation. Even good people can make bad choices and they have to face the results of their actions.
Before this, Lanez admitted that he did something wrong and took responsibility for it. He felt bad about what he did and wished he could change what happened that night when he shot at Megan Thee Stallion.
He asked for probation, but the judge decided that he should spend 10 years in prison.
Lanez has been making music since 2009 and has become quite famous. His albums even made it to the top 10 of Billboard's charts.
