Victor Wembanyama, the top pick in the 2023 NBA draft, has made the decision to maintain a low profile following a controversial incident involving pop star Britney Spears in Las Vegas last week.

Having embarked on a busy month that began with his selection by the San Antonio Spurs in late June and his subsequent NBA debut during Summer League games over the weekend, the 19-year-old French prodigy expressed his desire to concentrate on his basketball career and avoid any distractions from the media.

Reflecting on the past month, Wembanyama conveyed his sentiments to reporters on Monday, stating, "In the past month, I think basketball wasn't even 50% of my schedule. I can't stand it. I know it's a special moment in my life, but I'm glad it's over ... I just wanna hoop," as relayed by Tomer Azarly and reported by Sports Illustrated.

Previously reported details indicate that no charges will be pressed regarding the incident involving Britney Spears, aged 41, and a member of the San Antonio Spurs' security team, following the pop star's claim of being slapped by Wembanyama's team. Supporting her assertion, a video appears to demonstrate that she made contact by tapping rather than grabbing the player.

According to a statement from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to PEOPLE, the organization "has concluded its investigation of the alleged battery" and has decided not to pursue charges against the individual involved.

TMZ subsequently released a video capturing the encounter, in which Spears can be heard shouting "Sir!" as she approaches Wembanyama from behind while their group was en route to the Catch restaurant in the ARIA Hotel. As the singer attempts to touch the basketball player on his back, the security guard's arm intercepts between Wembanyama and Spears, resulting in the sound of a slap. The video, however, does not clearly indicate which party made contact. Furthermore, Spears' glasses are seen falling off her face.

A redacted police report, obtained by PEOPLE, reveals that after reviewing video footage, it was determined that Wembanyama's security guard employed his left hand to push away Britney's hand, resulting in her hand inadvertently striking her own face and causing her sunglasses to fall off.
