Former President Donald Trump has announced that he is now the subject of a criminal investigation related to his efforts to overturn the 2020 US election. The 77-year-old billionaire revealed on social media that he was informed by special counsel Jack Smith about being targeted in this investigation, which could potentially result in charges being filed against him.

In his statement on Truth Social, Trump expressed his displeasure with Jack Smith, whom he referred to as "Deranged," and mentioned that the notification was sent late on a Sunday night. He also expressed concern about the short notice given to report to the Grand Jury, implying that it usually leads to an arrest and indictment.

Furthermore, the former president claimed to be a victim of a "witch hunt," alleging that law enforcement was politically weaponized to target him for election interference.

It's important to note that Trump has already faced legal issues, having previously pleaded not guilty to 37 federal charges concerning the possession of classified documents at his Florida estate.

During a fundraiser in New Jersey, Trump criticized his political opponents, describing their actions as an "evil and heinous abuse of power," while maintaining his innocence. He argued that as president, he had the absolute right to possess and take with him any presidential papers he deemed necessary.

These latest developments add to the ongoing controversies surrounding Trump's post-election activities and could have significant implications for his future legal proceedings.
