Renowned Mommy Blogger Heather Armstrong Passes Away at Age 47

Heather Armstrong, a renowned blogger and writer known for pioneering the "mommy blogging" trend in the early 2000s, has passed away at the age of 47.

The tragic news was confirmed by her boyfriend, Pete Ashdown, who revealed that Heather took her own life on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.

Relapse after Sobriety

Heather had previously struggled with alcohol and depression and was sober for over 18 months before suffering a relapse. Her partner did not provide any further information about the incident.

According to the Salt Lake City Police Department, officers were called to Heather's home on May 9th and found her deceased. The preliminary investigation ruled that she committed suicide, but no additional details were released.

Blogging and Writing Career

Heather gained fame for her blog, dooce.com, where she candidly shared her journey through parenthood and her struggles with alcoholism and depression.

In addition to her blog, she authored several books, including "It Sucked and Then I Cried: How I Had a Baby, a Breakdown, and a Much Needed Margarita" and "Things I Learned About My Dad In Therapy."

She also made an appearance on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and was recognized by Forbes as one of the most powerful women in media.

Tribute from Pete Ashdown

Pete shared the news of Heather's passing and posted a tribute on her Instagram account. The post included a smiling photo of Heather and a heart-wrenching message that read, "Heather Brooke Hamilton aka Heather B. Armstrong aka dooce aka love of my life. July 19, 1975 - May 9, 2023. 'It takes an ocean not to break.' Hold your loved ones close and love everyone else."

Heather is survived by her two daughters, 19-year-old Leta Elise Armstrong and 14-year-old Marlo Iris Armstrong, whom she had with her ex-husband, Jon Armstrong. The former couple announced their divorce in 2012.
