The San Antonio Spurs are scheduled to host the Portland Trailblazers at the Moody Center in the first-ever NBA regular season game in Austin, which is set to commence tonight.

According to reports, the Spurs established an office in Austin two years ago with the aim of extending their basketball brand into the capital city. They have now transformed the Moody Center into a court, where they will host two games this weekend.

Brandon James, the Spurs’ senior vice president of strategic growth, who resides in Austin, has stated that the Spurs are committed to maintaining San Antonio as their permanent home.

The I-35 Series games hosted in Austin are intended to increase the fan base, and to allow the city to experience the team's brand in a unique and authentic manner.

According to the Sports Business Journal, Austin was recently ranked as the second-best sports business town in Texas. The city will hold 15 professional-related sporting events across 11 different sports this year.

The Austin Sports Commission is in charge of bringing these events into the city, and the director, Drew Hays, considers the arrival of the San Antonio Spurs to be a significant achievement for the city as they strive to become a top sports destination.
