The hitmaker revealed that her son, Riley, encountered breathing problems during his birth and had to stay in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for several days. In addition, she opened up to PEOPLE in an interview published on April 21, 2023, that she suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) after the delivery.
Complications During Childbirth
Meghan, along with her husband, Daryl Sabara, welcomed their first child, Riley, in 2021 via C-section. However, the delivery had complications, as the baby had trouble breathing and spent multiple days in the NICU. The pop singer shared her experience in her upcoming book "Dear Future Mama."
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Following Birth
Meghan revealed in an interview with PEOPLE that she suffered from PTSD after her delivery. She recounted feeling alone during the surgery and being drugged up. She also shared that she couldn't sleep and had nightmares and flashbacks to the C-section. The singer had to work with a therapist to overcome her traumatic experience.
Coping with Trauma
Meghan reached out to a therapist for help in dealing with her PTSD. She had to "learn how traumatic it was" and work through her feelings. She shared that her therapist explained the "chemical reactions in [her] brain" and helped her "open that up and heal that wound." Although she acknowledged that time heals all, the pop star worked to heal herself from the traumatic experience.
Looking Forward
Meghan and Daryl are expecting their second child together this summer. Despite her past trauma, the pop singer remains excited about the upcoming birth and looks forward to welcoming her new child into the world.
