According to a report by CNN, former President Donald Trump is currently facing criminal charges in court following a historic indictment.
This marks the first time a former president has faced such charges, which relate to an investigation into a hush money payment made to an adult film actress in 2016.
The Manhattan District Attorney's office alleges that Trump was involved in an unlawful plan to suppress negative information and undermine the integrity of the 2016 election.
During his first speech since pleading not guilty to 34 felony counts, Trump criticized the indictment and the DA's office.
Trump appeared in a New York City court on Tuesday to hear the charges against him.
While his lawyers have stated that they will fight to have the charges dropped, Trump himself denies any wrongdoing.
As per the court proceedings, Trump's legal team has until August 8 to file any motions, and the prosecution will respond by September 19.
Judge Juan Merchan has scheduled the next in-person hearing for December 4, during which he will rule on the submitted motions.
