Shawn Mendes recently debuted a new buzzcut hairstyle at the start of the new year. In a recent interview with the Wall Street Journal, Mendes shared that his decision to shave his famous locks was driven by his curiosity to see himself with a shaved head and a desire for change.

Mendes' closely cut style was first seen on Jan. 7, and he paired it with a bohemian knitwear look that was quite different from his previous cool and sexy rock 'n roll aesthetic.

However, according to the Wall Street Journal, the sudden chop was reflective of the healing happening in Mendes' personal life, which became a priority after the singer canceled his tour dates last summer.


Mendes shared that the healing process was difficult and involved therapy, trying to understand how he was feeling, and leaning on people in his life to help. Despite this, the singer is slowly but surely making his way back into the studio to create new music.

In addition to his music, Mendes has recently embarked on a new fashion gig with David Yurman as the jewelry brand's new ambassador.

Mendes noted that the brand's commitment to quality, authenticity, and timeless style made it a natural fit for him. He added that he likes pieces that are subtle enough to make him feel comfortable but also elevate his overall look.
