An 18-year-old female student at Indiana University was attacked and stabbed in the head while on a bus in Bloomington, Indiana, on Thursday.
The attack has been described as racially motivated by officials. Billie R. Davis, 56, of Bloomington, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, aggravated violence, and battery with a dangerous weapon.
The victim and Davis had not communicated before the incident, according to video footage from inside the bus, as reported by NY Times.
The student was taken to a hospital and her condition is currently unknown.
The incident is one of many hate crimes against Asians, leading to the passage of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act last year.
