Dolly Parton Regrets Rejecting Elvis Presley's Request to Cover 'I Will Always Love You'


Despite the rejection, the song went on to become a hit when it was covered by Whitney Houston.

According to an interview with W Magazine, country singer Dolly Parton regrets rejecting Elvis Presley's request to cover her song "I Will Always Love You" in the early 1970s.

Presley's manager had approached Parton on behalf of the King of Rock 'n' Roll to cover the song.

However, Parton turned down the request when Presley's manager Colonel Tom Parker asked for half of Parton's publishing rights.

The "Jolene" songstress said in the interview that she wanted to hear Presley sing the song and it broke her heart.

Despite the rejection, the song went on to become a hit when it was covered by Whitney Houston in the 1992 film "The Bodyguard" and was played at Houston's funeral in 2012.
