It was the news that would have sent fans into a frenzy. Beyoncé, one of the biggest music stars in the world, had reportedly reached out to fellow pop queen Britney Spears with an exciting proposal – to appear in a new music video together.
However, it seems that the collaboration has not come to fruition, according to multiple sources who spoke exclusively to Page Six.
It is unclear why the plans fell through, with reps for both singers remaining tight-lipped when contacted for comment. This would have been the second music-related project for Spears since her controversial 13-year conservatorship came to an end in November 2021.
Spears had made her highly-anticipated comeback earlier that year in August, when she released a duet with Elton John titled "Hold Me Closer", a remake of John's classic hit "Tiny Dancer". The upbeat track debuted at No.6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, marking Spears' first top 10 single in a decade.
As for Beyoncé, she too had dropped new music in the preceding year, with her highly-successful dance album "Renaissance" topping the Billboard 200 chart in July and earning her an impressive nine Grammy nominations.
Although Beyoncé is known for her groundbreaking visual albums, such as 2016's "Lemonade", she has yet to release any music videos to promote "Renaissance", however, she did collaborate with Madonna for a remix of her single "Break My Soul".
This would not be the first time that Beyoncé and Spears have worked together, with the duo previously sharing the stage in a Pepsi commercial in 2004.

The iconic ad, which featured fellow pop star Pink, saw the three superstars singing a rendition of Queen's hit "We Will Rock You", all dressed in gladiator attire.
Despite the disappointment of the collaboration not coming to fruition, fans of both artists can take solace in the fact that they have new music to enjoy and can look forward to future collaborations in the future.
