A New York Times documentary released on Friday claims that Britney Spears' father Jamie Spears hired a security firm to track her phone calls and text messages while she lived in a court-approved conservatorship since 2008.

In the documentary titled "Controlling Britney Spears," former Black Box Security employee Alex Vlasov relates his experience working with Britney's team for almost nine years.

By logging into the pop star's iCloud account, the company "mirrored" her phone on an iPad, Vlasov said. In addition, he said that a listening device was installed in her bedroom.

According to Vlasov, he was tasked with encrypting some of Britney's text conversations so Jamie and an employee from a business management firm he had hired could access the conversations.

The monitoring, Vlasov asserted, was supposed to be for the pop star's protection, and that the court overseeing the conservatorship knew about it, as did Britney's lawyer at the time.

Vlasov said that the monitoring included conversations between Britney and her lawyer, Sam Ingham.
